It doesn’t matter what animal you own at some point in their life as they get older they may find that they have problems with their joints. Just like with any animal tired muscles and joints can lead to a slowing down of general activities and also leave them in unnecessary pain. You will have probably noticed the symptoms early on as they become a little stiff in the mornings and are less agile when moving quickly.

Horses that spend much of their lives on their feet and usually work hard for their owners will often suffer from poor joints as they age. To ease the pain and give them extra life in their legs there is a drug called Pro-Dynam, which is designed to reduce inflammation of the muscles and surrounding joints. It is a non-steroid drug but does need to be ordered with an accompanying veterinary prescription. Also, any prolonged usage should be considered with great care and a full check-up of your horse should be done on a regular basis.

Metacam for Dogs is an oral non-steroid based anti-inflammatory drug that is designed specifically for dogs. This again can take the pressure of the joints relieving any swelling and pain that they may be suffering. The company also make solutions for horses and cats, but can only be bought with a prescription from your vets. The reason is because giving your animal any anti-inflammatory drugs can have adverse effects on them if they have any underlying health conditions.

Another anti-inflammatory non-steroid-based drug for dogs is called Rimadyl. This is ideal for dogs that have recently undergone an operation and are suffering from swelling or pain from an arthritic condition. It can help make their life a little bit more comfortable and ease the pain when they want to go for a walk.

Animals do tend to suffer from joint conditions in their old age, you will notice that they are less responsive and tend to be less enthusiastic about their environment. By simply easing the pain that they are in and reducing the swelling that may be occurring from arthritis or a related joint condition you will be making their life more comfortable and enjoyable again.

Being observant with our pets’ movements will be the key in knowing their condition as they can’t speak and it’s great to know that there are over the counter medicines to relieve their sufferings. I love your blogs, always useful and informative.

How we treat our pets reflect who we are and taking care of them should not be taken for granted. In some places however, the scarcity of veterinary clinics remains a big problem. If we at least know some over the counter medicines,we can give them temporary respite from their sufferings.

I am really surprised, anyway, it is good you have posted some remedy for their joint condition, this would help those owners to have pets and suffer painful joints. Me? Maybe it’s just me, but I think a lot of pet owners are not aware that animals suffer from joint pains, too. So yes, despite the probability of me spamming your comment thread, I would have to say thank you for such an informative post. Every animal owner out there should read this.

Our dogs are scheduled for their vet visit and for sure the Vet will tell us about this type of meds will be given to our sweet girl Sophie. She has arthritis and it is slowing her down.

Having pets is like having your own kids. It comes with responsibility. They are like part of your family you have to look after and give them the best care you can give.
