When I was studying a caregiving program in 2008, I get the chance to visit Bataan for even just a day. We accompanied our classmates who did a week’s training at Bahay Puso. It is a shelter for abandoned elderly people. In as much as I wanted to join and experience a week of training as part of our short course program, I had to let go of the chance because my youngest daughter then was having fever. She wanted mommy all by her side.
It must have been an unforgettable experience. Anyways, my classmates have had too many stories to share. Particularly my male classmates, they reiterated how their mens scrubs had been full of dirt and stain when they got home. Everyone of them swear care-giving especially to bedridden elders is a tough job. But, the heartwarming stories of every resident there were more than enough to move their spirits away.
Too many great experiences for my friends in Bataan. It saddened me, I didn’t get to experience it.
