effigy at Pahiyas festival

This effigy stands at the foot of a house in Lucban, Quezon Province last year. We were there on the invitation of my sister-in-law, whose husband is a proud resident of the cool but serene place.

It was part of the yearly Pahiyas festival held on the month of May each year. It is a lively feast with colorful “kiping” used as adornment. Kiping is ground rice molded to make colorful lanterns which drapes beautifully at every house’s windows in the town proper.
